Are You Sending the Right Message?

Updated: Apr 1, 2019

Do you remember a couple of years ago when those knuckleheads decided to exercise their right to carry rifles in public? "Yeah, let's sling our AR-15's over our shoulders and go parade around the Target store parking lot! That'll show 'em we can exercise our rights if we want to."

Wow! Really? The message these imbeciles were actually sending was "Pro-gun rights people are a bunch of trigger happy rednecks that like to wave their guns around to alarm the general public." They certainly don't help our cause.

Did they have the right to do so? In the great sate of Texas, Yes, they did and still do.

NOTE TO ANTI-GUNNERS or those who are on the fence: These guys are part of the "embarrassing minority".

Most Pro-gunners write or call their congressmen. Discuss their views with others in a non-threatening civil manner. They vote and encourage others to do the same. From where I stand, that is the sensible way to promote Pro-gun rights.

AND ONE MORE THING while we are discussing sensible actions...

As of January 1, 2016, our great state of Texas passed a law allowing the open carry of firearms by licensed citizens. It was probably close to a full year before I personally saw anyone openly carry. I personally like the law because it takes the heat off of accidentally "brandishing" or exposing my concealed weapon. You can do whatever you want in this regard and I will not judge you either way. However, I never plan to openly carry for several reasons:

  1. I lose the element of surprise should my firearm ever need to come in to play.

  2. If bad guys walk in to a place to do what bad guys do, I'm pretty sure that I and any other open carry person will be the first targets they will want to eliminate.

  3. I fear being tagged as one of the "embarrassing minority"

The classes offered at CrossPointe Defense discuss these and many other scenarios that might affect the outcome of a violent encounter. We learn a lot and we have fun doing it! Whatever you do, train with your weapon of choice. Remember, "you fight like you train", so train hard!
