Steve Mitchell
One of three brothers raised in a small town in West Texas, guns and hunting was a big part of our lives. I started out at six years old following my Dad hunting quail.
Gun safety was always the topic of conversation as soon as the guns came out of their cases. Dad drilled those safety rules into our heads. When I was a little older, I was allowed to carry a shotgun in the field. But not until I showed that I was responsible and knew and practiced the gun safety rules. I have since raised my kids the same way.

After over 30 years of hunting and shooting, I began self defense training. When I realized how important it was in today's world, I made it my mission to pass on my skills and knowledge to others who had the desire to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

Although I am a certified firearms instructor, I consider myself to be a lifelong student absorbing as much knowledge and additional skill as I can from other professionals in the business.

Alan Mitchell
Son of Chief Instructor, Steve Mitchell, raised on the farm where we currently instruct, hunting and firearms has always been a part of my life. I was sitting in a deer blind when I was three years old. I took my first deer at age seven. My first bobcat came at age eleven as did my first feral hog which my Dad refers to as "the beast" weighing in at 450 lbs and taken with a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum single action revolver.
I began defensive handgun, defensive carbine and defensive shotgun training at age fourteen and sat through dozens of CHL classes until I turned twenty one. I began martial arts at age ten and now hold a 3rd Degree Brown Belt in Judo and a Brown Belt in Shorin Ryu and Kenpo Karate.
Dad taught us that there are some bad people in the world and we hope we are lucky (and smart) enough to avoid them during our lifetime. But, Dad was also an Eagle Scout and he lived by the BSA Motto: Be Prepared. He taught us to always be aware of our surroundings and be prepared to defend ourselves, try to avoid a fight, but win if we must fight.
I have spent over half of my life preparing for the unexpected...heaven forbid it ever happen! I have been teaching others to shoot and how to defend themselves for more than five years now. I am currently a Sensei (instructor) at the Denton Optimist Judo Club.
